Like all business, a good team of staff can make all the difference to the success of a restaurant. Finding staff for your restaurant and bar may appear to be a relatively easy task. Do not underestimate the frustration of finding adequate waiters, remember you want them to market your restaurant in their personal presentation while working efficiently, in a (hopefully!) busy atmosphere and very importantly - be honest when handling cash.
When looking to attract potential employees there are several ways to go about it. Firstly, there will always be applicants who hand in their CVs all year round looking for part-time vacancies. Even when there is not a position to fill it is worth keeping these CVs on file because restaurant turn-over is great and it cost nothing to set up a filing-system.
You can also place adverts in local press or on catering websites which can be a risky expense as they can be costly without a positive gain. The final resort is to employ a recruitment agency, which is perceived as the most expensive option but when put into consideration with the time it takes to interview unsuitable candidates, check references and observe them do a trial shift, sometimes a recruitment agency can be a solid investment in that it will save you the time and aggravation.
